It had its time of worthiness. It replaced the protest song.
Now its about 'blunts, 40's and Hoes'...its now just a shit version of Country.

I still love some of the classic hip hop albums, I don't listen to much new stuff as I'm fairly old and stuck in my ways.
Not quite as old and stuck in my ways as les marteaux though.

Loved it during the the late 70s and 80s when it was raw and in point. Since then, it's progressively morphed into a pile of commercialised 'greed is good' corporate sell out bollocks.

Love me some Rap.
It is basically rhyming poetry, mostly not subtle but it definitely has its place in music. My favourite Rap was when I was just getting used to its concept as a child back in 1984, it was Chaka Khan's feel for you which has a short Rap at the start and its repeated throughout by melle mel that is the rap that made me realise that without it the song was good but not as good .

Yep, same as Mike, especially the stuff that was churned out from '87-89. Hip Hop's finest years.

While we're talking about it. Get onto Chance The Rapper. Absolute genius, plays loads of instruments and his wordplay his second to none.
Serious talent

The old stuff for me but then I am an old git. It used to be ground breaking and interesting but most of the newer stuff is bland, dull and repetitive. It takes a nation of millons to hold us back is still a fantastic album and hasn't dated at all.

les marteaux - Just stick to boybands then you'll be ok.
'Rap' as a genre isn't actually music anyway it's the spoken word, people have been doing it for years, including such ditties as Rapture by Blondie.
You can rap over different music genres, mostly Hip Hop.
If you're talking about Hip Hop, which i presume you are by your ignorance then yes it's mostly shite now, then again 99% of music is, you'll never get the halcyon days back from the early 80's till the early 90's. Mind you the best i've heard for years is actually in London tonight...Apollo Brown. His stuff is ridiculously good.

There's still some decent underground stuff out there. I quite like The Four Owls as it goes.
